Coral Reef Benthos Classification Using Data from a Short-Range Multispectral Sensor

نویسندگان

چکیده

A five-band short-range multispectral sensor (MicaSense RedEdge-M) was adapted to an underwater housing and used obtain data from coral reef benthos. Artificial illumination required most of the spectral range sensor; optimal distance for obtaining these 0.5 m, bottom. Multispectral orthomosaics were developed using structure-from-motion software; have advantage producing ultra-high spatial resolution (down 0.4 × mm/pixel) images over larger areas. Pixel-based supervised classification a (R, G, B, RE bands) orthomosaic accurately discriminated among different benthic components; schemes defined 9 14 components such as brown algae, green sponges, crustose coralline species with high accuracy (up 84% overall accuracy, 0.83 Kappa Tau coefficients). The least useful band acquired by camera this application near-infrared (820–860 nm) associated its rapid absorption in water column. Further testing is explore possible applications orthomosaics, including assessment health colonies, well automation their processing.

Mapping Coral Reef Benthos, Substrates, and Bathymetry, Using Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) Data

This study used a reef-up approach to map coral reef benthos, substrates and bathymetry, with high spatial resolution hyperspectral image data. It investigated a physics-based inversion method for mapping coral reef benthos and substrates using readily available software: Hydrolight and ENVI. Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) data were acquired over Heron Reef in July 2002. The spec...

Coral reef texture classification using support vector machines

The development of tools to examine the ecological parameters of coral reefs is seriously lagging behind available computer-based technology. Until recently the use of images in environmental and ecological data gathering has been limited to terrestrial analysis because of difficulties in underwater image capture and data analysis. In this paper, we propose the application of computer vision to...

Coral reef grazer-benthos dynamics complicated by invasive algae in a small marine reserve

Blooms of alien invasive marine algae have become common, greatly altering the health and stability of nearshore marine ecosystems. Concurrently, herbivorous fishes have been severely overfished in many locations worldwide, contributing to increases in macroalgal cover. We used a multi-pronged, interdisciplinary approach to test if higher biomass of herbivorous fishes inside a no-take marine re...

BIFURCATION ANALYSIS OF A DDE MODEL OF THE CORAL REEF

‎In this paper‎, ‎first we discuss a local stability analysis of model was introduced by P‎. ‎J‎. ‎Mumby et‎. ‎al‎. ‎(2007)‎, ‎with $frac{gM^{2}}{M+T}$ as the functional response term‎. ‎We conclude that the grazing intensity is the important parameter to control the existence or extinction of the coral reef‎. ‎Next‎, ‎we consider this model under the influence of the time delay as the bifurcat...

Prediction of Bleaching in Coral Reef Communities Using a Temperature Index(Southern and northern Persian Gulf)

Sea surface temperature is one of the most effective physical parameters that affects the health of coral reefs communities.High frequency of the bleaching phenomenon has extensively occurred in the Persian Gulf in the recent years due to the increase in temperature and increased changes in the sea surface temperature (SST) resulting in great mortality in the coral communities. The aim of this ...
